Stephen Williamson, MD, FACP serves as the Division Director
for the Department of Internal Medicine’s Division of Hematology/Oncology. He
is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology
and has extensive clinical trials expertise in gastrointestinal,
lung and head and neck cancers.
Dr. Williamson’s clinical interests include thoracic,
head and neck and gastrointestinal cancer. He currently
serves as Medical Director of the University of Kansas Hospital’s
Cancer Center and Medical Pavilion.
Background
Dr. Williamson received his BS degree in Chemistry
from Kansas Newman College in Wichita, KS. He later received
his Medical Degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine
in 1979. Dr. Williamson completed his residency at the
University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Medical College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In
1982 he went into private practice in internal medicine in
Halstead, Kansas. In 1983, he joined the Wichita Veterans
Administration Medical Center as a staff physician. He
later completed his fellowship in medical oncology at the University
of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Williamson joined the faculty
of KUMC in 1986 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. He
was appointed to Professor of Medicine in 1999 and named director
of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 2002.
