investigator of peer‐reviewed investigator‐initiated cancer‐related clinical trials within the last three years; and the primary or secondary author of peer‐reviewed cancer‐related publications within the last three years.
  • Researchers and clinicians with faculty appointments at one of the University of Kansas campuses who are engaged in cancer‐focused research and clinical practice as evidenced by publications and/or grants, but do not have peer‐reviewed cancer‐related funding within the last three years.
  • Researchers and clinicians associated with institutions outside of the KU system and hold an adjunct or volunteer faculty position at the University of Kansas or its Medical Center and who demonstrate a

mission of the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Key Collaborator: Researchers and clinicians associated with one of the University of Kansas campuses who are interested in developing and contributing to cancer‐related research/clinical trial projects in collaboration with Members, but do not currently meet the membership requirements. Faculty appointments are not required for Key Collaborators.

Membership Review Process

The Membership Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to Director Roy Jensen, M.D., on the appropriate membership category and research program placement for all new and renewing Cancer Center members. William Jewel, M.D., Matt Mayo, Ph.D., Kathy Roby, Ph.D., and the Program Co‐leaders serve on the Membership Committee.

Applicants will be notified of their membership appointment by the end of August. The Membership Committee and Director reserve the right to reassign the membership category and program assignment for renewing members based on current criteria provided by the National Cancer Institute and member information. The KUCC may offer additional application submission and membership review opportunities during the membership year as needed.

Responsibilities of Membership

Cancer Center members are expected to actively participate in the research and/or clinical trials programs, serve on Cancer Center committees, attend Cancer Center‐sponsored meetings and seminars, and cite their Cancer Center affiliation on grants, publications, presentations, etc. Participation is broadly defined, but ideally includes developing new collaborative cancerrelated research projects with other Cancer Center members. Members must submit all clinical cancer studies to the KMCRI’s Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee for scientific review. Members conducting clinical trials are encouraged to utilize the resources of the Clinical Trials Office. Members are requested to provide information on clinical trials, research support, publications, etc. as required by the NCI’s Cancer Center Support Grant. The Director reserves the right to revoke membership status if it is deemed that a member is not actively contributing to the cancer focus of the Center.
