Matthew Mayo, PhD leads the Center for Biostatistics and Advanced Informatics, a key resource for the University of Kansas Cancer Center’s research members.  Dr. Mayo brings exceptional experience in the field of biostatistics and informatics.  Having been recruited from the University of Alabama-Birmingham’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Mayo has the knowledge and experience needed to help achieve the National Cancer Institute’s designation at KU.

Background

Dr. Mayo received his BA in Statistics in 1986 and MA in Statistics in 1990 from the University of Missouri..  He went on to obtain his PhD in Applied Statistics from the University of Alabama in 1995.  Dr. Mayo completed his MBA degree from Baker University in 2004.  He joined the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology.  He also served as a biostatistician for the University of Alabama’s Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Biostatistics Unit.  He later joined the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1998 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, where he served until January 2007.  Dr. Mayo was appointed director of the Medical Statistics and Research Design Unit, where he served for 2 years.  He served as the first Director of the Clinical Trials Office from 2001-2006.  He now serves as the Director of the Center for Biostatistics and Advanced Informatics and is Chair of the Department of Biostatistics.
