Cancer is a complicated disease. Fighting cancer needs
a comprehensive team of experts.
At the University of Kansas Cancer Center, we are more than
an academic cancer center; we are a unique community-based
cancer research and care partnership focused on one mission:
eliminating the burden of cancer.
Our cancer team includes: the University of Kansas-Lawrence and
its School of Pharmacy, the KU Medical Center campuses in Kansas
City and Wichita, the University of Kansas Hospital, the Stowers
Institute for Medical Research, and the Midwest Cancer Alliance
- a network of hospitals providing cancer care across the region.
KU's Quest for National Cancer Institute Designation
Central to the University of Kansas Cancer Center's vision of
eliminating the cancer burden in Kansas and the Heartland is achieving National
Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center designation within
the next decade. NCI designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center signifies
that an academic cancer center has achieved the highest standards. Currently,
there are 24 NCI-designated Cancer Centers and 39 NCI-designated Comprehensive
Cancer Centers in the United States. For more on the NCI designation
process, click here.
