Edward Ellerbeck, MD, MPH serves as the Chair of the Cancer
Control and Population Health Research Program. Under Dr.
Ellerbeck’s guidance, the Cancer Control and Population
Health Research Program is an exceptionally strong program and
currently has three R01 grants awarded to research members.
Dr. Ellerbeck’s research is focused on translational research,
examining the implementation of effective clinical strategies
into primary care practice. Current projects are examining
better ways to incorporate smoking cessation and cancer screening
services into primary care.
Background
Dr. Ellerbeck received his Bachelor of Arts and Medical
Degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In
1987, he completed his Masters in Public Health degree from Johns
Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Ellerbeck completed his residency at the University of Missouri
Kansas City’s affiliated hospitals. He served as
Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMKC from 1986-1987. Dr.
Ellerbeck went to Johns Hopkins University where he completed
a residency in preventive medicine in 1989 and a research fellowship
in general internal in 1992. Dr. Ellerbeck joined the
faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1997 as
an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine
and Internal Medicine. He currently holds an associate
professorship in the Department of Internal Medicine at KUMC
and serves as the Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine.
